Donelli Vini is one of the most important Italian wineries, was founded in 1915 by Adolfo Donelli and for many years in the group led by Anthony Giacobazzi and children. Their flagship product is the Lambrusco wine we tasted together with my colleague Branko Grizelji of Croatian origin , Maitre Sommelier of France.This is a Lambrusco Grasparossa Castelvetro version lovable. Visual aspect is a red-purple color from violet with a good extraction of coloring matter, it is clear with a little fluid present and persistent and just a slight effervescence. The first olfactory examination of the nose reveals aromas, a good intensity and persistence with a good maturity of the fruit. The second nose opens to aromas of black currant, violet, raspberry (very strong), after a moment of aeretion there are hints of plum very obvious associated with sweet spices of the East in which stand out the cinnamon and nutmeg, although they are very birds. Examination taste is sweet, balanced by good acidity and a perception of carbon dioxide almost nonexistent, it looks well balanced with good persistence and quality. I found no technical faults and is a wine to drink at this stage to highlight the notes together with those of fresh fruit. The agreement is good with sweet dishes based on red fruit (raspberries above all) or with the pastries are not too elaborate a meal so that it leaves a nice clean mouth (the notes of freshness) and not heavy. Try with cheese such as gorgonzola and mascarpone, or a parmesan cheese (30 months would be ideal), accompanied by a small sauce of reduced balsamic vinegar and strawberries.
The Winery is Le Marchesine and wine is the Secolo Novo.that means new century. The Secolo Novo vintage Franciacorta DOCG, produced only in the best vintages, was born in 2000 just to celebrate the new century. It is a Blanc des Blancs (to use a French word) that uses only Chardonnay grapes, comes exclusively from a single vineyard, historically owned by Biatta’s Family: La Santissima di Gussago of about 270 meters above sea level. Hand picked, native yeasts, aged on the lees for about 36 months these are the characteristics that are unique to this wonderful Franciacorta. We are the Olympus of Italian sparkling wines. The Century Novo has also found some success in France and in Monaco.
Wine tasting with Maria Cristina Oddero early January at The Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo. Simple wine, made from 100% Dolcetto and vinified in stainless steel to keep intact its primary aromas typical of this grape. Following are my tasting notes.
Dolcetto d’Alba, Oddero 2008 | 14/20
The color is a fairly deep ruby red with violet tints. The viscosity is revealed with arches which descend to the bottom of the glass rather quickly. The first nose is vinous, alcoholic, fruity, without any scent of wood.
At the second nose I find hints of red fruits with notes of acidity (raspberries and blueberries), a light scent of banana. The alcohol is quite high, the taste turns later to more mature fruit flavors like black cherry. Notes of “wild” that are already evolving.
The palate is quite acid, no alcohol, medium body. Persistence is quite long, easy to drink. When tasted with my french sommeliers, they found it rather disappointing, although I must say that they are not familiar with the typical aromas of Dolcetto ready to drink and are always looking for complexity in every wine. I would say that this is an unpretentious Dolcetto, without any particular praise, quite anonymous, with an alcohol level rather high.
The word Lafite derives from Guascon the “hite” meaning the slopes. The vineyards dates back to 1670, under the supervision of Jacques de Sègur; one of his descendents : Nicolas Alexandre de Sègur was named the “prince of the vines”as he continued to purchase in 1718 Lafite, Latour, Calon and Mouton.
We are talking about a wine from the Langhe (Piedmont): Barbaresco. The little sister of King Barolo which share the same Nebbiolo grape. Three villages compose the Barbaresco DOCG: Barbaresco itself, Treiso and Neive. As soon as you entry the ancient village of Neive your eyes goes left to look at the magnificient demeure called Castello di Neive. Nearby the village we find a few well known vineyards like Santo Stefano. The wine I’m talking about is Barbaresco Santo Stefano 2003 of Castello di Neive
Non siamo spariti dalla circolazione, no. E’ solo che siamo presi da diversi impegni vinosi e, soprattutto, stiamo lavorando su VinoGlocal per migliorarlo. In un prossimo futuro dovreste vedere cosa ne verrà fuori. Lo scorso week end sara ricordato come quello della battaglia fra miliardari. Lunedi mattina, sul porto a Saint Tropez, non si sentiva parlare d’altro che di questo week end di spese gigantesche all’insegna dello champagne.
Ancora questo fine settimana è poi finiamo col pubblicare sempre sul Rossese Style, ma permettetecelo: abbiamo ancora alcuni video interesssanti e belli, come questi due, ad esempio, che raffigurano la magia del posto in cui si è svolta la cena conclusiva della degustazione alla cieca, nel piccolo piazzale appena a ridosso della Chiesa Vecchia.
Durante la degustazione alla cieca sul Rossese di Dolceacqua, abbiamo cercato di avviare qualche conversazione, nonostante le condizioni ambientali e temporali ci venivano contro. Un resoconto molto interessante, secondo me, è stato quello di Brigitte Leloup dell’Association des Sommeliers d’Europe.
Vi do alcune notizie su Bajardo, il paese che ha ospitato la prima edizione di Rossese Style. Alcune informazioni iniziali le ho già scritte qui. Il paese si articola nella parte alta ad anelli concentrici di case e in quella più recente, che in basso affianca la strada centrale di cresta.
